Chapter 3
118 VirtualReScan (VRS) User’s Guide
For more information about file names and file types, see File Name Formatting on
page 118.
Scan with Preview / Scan: Select Scan with Preview to scan and preview the
results in the VRS Thumbnail Viewer before you save or attach the document. Select
Scan to scan a document without previewing the results.
File Name Formatting
When you use the VRS Desktop Productivity features to scan a document, it is saved
to a file named “Untitled” by default. If desired, you can rename the file. With email
applications, the file name serves as the name of the attachment in which the scanned
document is saved. With Windows Desktop and Windows Explorer, the file name is
applied to the file in which the scanned document is saved.
The file name actually serves as a “base” file name. The first time you use a VRS
Desktop Productivity scanning option, the default base file name “Untitled” is
applied.
As you scan subsequent documents, VRS appends a numeric sequence to the base file
name (Untitled_0001, Untitled_0002, and so on).
If desired, you can rename the file by doing one of the following:
Type another name in the File Name combo box that is available with some of
the email applications
Type another name in the File Name field in the VRS Professional Scan
window that is available when you select the Configure option from any of the
add-ins
Unless you update it, the current file name stays in effect. The File Name selection
always defaults to the most recently used name.
File Type
When you use the VRS Desktop Productivity scanning options, the document is saved
in the format specified in the VRS Professional Scan window. By default, the selected
format is PDF. When the PDF or Multi-page TIFF file type is selected, all images are
saved in a single file, regardless of the number of images in the document. If you
select any of the other file types (JPEG, Bitmap, PNG, or Single-page TIFF), a separate
file is produced for each image in the scanned document.
